Our process.

    •  We conducted 5 user interviews with people who had either moved within the last 6 months, just finished a move, or were planning to move in the near future.

    • To gain further insight, we put together a survey that was posted online and emailed to participants. The survey received 47 responses.

    • We identified and analyzed 4 competitors to determine what features and functions the mobile apps offer and what problems they solve for users.

  • Our user interviews yielded major moving pain points:

    1. Tracking, organizing, and accomplishing all tasks

    2. Coordinating and communicating with the others helping to move

    3. Keeping track of important move-related documents.

    4. Staying energized, positive, and motivated

Valuable information gained from our survey:

    1. Users prefer to communicate through messaging

    2. A top stressor for users is getting their current house packed up

    Our competitor analyses found:

    1. None of the competitors provided all of the features in one place that our user interviews and surveys indicated were important.

  • Features we developed to solve users' pain points:

    1. A comprehensive onboarding process that informs the creation of a customized moving plan, including to-do lists and notifications

    2. The ability to collaborate and communicate with other moving team members, including tracking and assigning tasks and a messaging component

    3. Document storage featuring the ability to scan or photograph documents or choose an existing image

    4. A daily checklist where tasks can be checked off and users earn badges for making progress

    • We each developed low-fidelity sketches of feature configurations and designs and used those to identify the most functional and aesthetically pleasing solutions.

    • We conducted usability testing to determine the ease of the app and inform further refinement.

    Based on testing, refinements included:

    1. Redesigning the To-Do List feature, including removing toggle buttons that proved to confuse users and adding the ability to assign To-Dos.

    2. Adding the ability to define the type of document that's being added to storage to make it easier to organize and find documents

    • Three members of our team were responsible for building the high-fidelity version of our MoveSync app. We divided features and used Figma to complete the "final" (is it ever really final?) version.
